थेंग कोको, केरल के त्रिशूर में मारिया कुरियाकोस द्वारा 2019 में स्थापित एक स्टार्टअप, फेंके गए नारियल के छिलकों से पर्यावरण के अनुकूल रोजमर्रा के उत्पाद और गहने बनाने के लिए समर्पित है। मुंबई में पूर्व प्रशासन विशेषज्ञ मारिया ने एक स्थानीय प्रसंस्करण इकाई में नारियल के छिलकों को जलाए जाने या फेंक दिए जाने के बाद इस टिकाऊ उद्यम की शुरुआत की।

उनका दृष्टिकोण नारियल की भूसी और गोले के लिए अभिनव उपयोग ढूंढना था, जो मुख्य रूप से महंगे शिल्प में बदल गए थे, उनके श्रम-गहन स्वभाव के कारण कुशल कारीगरों की आवश्यकता थी। मारिया ने कप, तश्तरी, साबुन के बर्तन और कटलरी जैसी व्यावहारिक वस्तुओं पर ध्यान केंद्रित करने का फैसला किया, जिनका उत्पादन करना चुनौतीपूर्ण था, लेकिन पारंपरिक शिल्प के कलात्मक कौशल की आवश्यकता नहीं थी।

इंडिया टाइम्स की खबर के मुताबिक, अपनी स्थापना के दो साल से कुछ अधिक समय बाद, थेंगा कोको, मारिया का पर्यावरण के प्रति जागरूक स्टार्टअप, अब हर महीने 4,000 से 5,000 नारियल के खोल उत्पाद बेचता है, जिससे लगभग 7-8 लाख रुपये का राजस्व होता है। मारिया का लक्ष्य लोगों को पर्यावरण-अनुकूल और टिकाऊ उत्पादों को अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित करना है, और बढ़ती पर्यावरणीय जागरूकता और स्थिरता में रुचि के साथ, ऐसे उत्पादों का भविष्य आशाजनक दिखता है।

थेंगा कोको अपनी पर्यावरण-अनुकूल पेशकशों की बढ़ती मांग को पूरा करने के लिए अपनी उत्पाद श्रृंखला और उत्पादन क्षमता का विस्तार करने पर सक्रिय रूप से काम कर रहा है।
